Speaker Bios
Mike Morton has over 25 years of experience in providing audit and related services, across a broad range of industries. He has worked with a variety of organizations, from large Fortune 100 SEC registrants to smaller private companies, and across numerous industries, including life sciences, standard manufacturing, US government contracting, professional services, and software. Mike leads the audit and assurance life sciences industry practice for the Greater Washington Area practice. Mike has significant experience with complex business transactions, having assisted in various strategic reorganization activities, including SEC initial public offerings and spin-offs, carve-outs, acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt offerings, and fresh-start bankruptcy reorganizations. He is also an active participant in the Greater Washington Area practice of Deloitte through his involvement in various marketplace activities, as well as the overall development of managers and staff. Mike has served as an engagement quality control review partner for the audits of numerous public and private entities, with responsibility for independently confirming audit quality. He is one of Deloitte’s consultative resources for the aerospace and defense industry, and has led various internal technical training activities for levels ranging from interns to partners. In addition, Mike served in Deloitte & Touche’s national office in the accounting services consultation group in 2003 and 2004, where he was responsible for providing technical accounting interpretations and conclusions, primarily in the areas of revenue recognition models and business combinations. Mike’s approach to client service is based on collaboration, responsiveness, transparency, and candidness. He believes that each professional is responsible for being proactive and responsive to needs and requests, and he sets this mindset for both himself and his teams. Mike also establishes a culture where Deloitte prefers to be involved in the process, and not just at the end of the journey. He believes that being part of the journey involves not only listening, but also offering candid opinions and insights, as well as transparency into Deloitte’s overall process.

Charlie Bird is an experienced Senior Manager working in the Greater Washington Accounting and Reporting Advisory practice. Charlie has over 16 years of experience working both at Deloitte and private companies. In his role at Deloitte, Charlie is responsible for managing the execution and delivery of services that are targeted at helping our clients solve their most complex and challenging technical accounting and reporting matters. Charlie has spent the past 3 years supporting the Boston practice and has substantial experience within the life sciences industry.  Charlie is also a member of Deloitte’s national capital markets transaction team. Over his career, Charlie has delivered technical accounting memos, coordinated with auditors, and managed complex reporting challenges for both private and public life-sciences organizations including:
1. In and out licensed intellectual property
2. Issuance of debt including venture debt
3. Issuance of preferred stock and other equity instruments
4. Employee and non-employee stock compensation
