Professional Bio
Dr. Sharon Hrynkow is the Founder, President/CEO of Life Science Associates LLC DBA Life Science Works (LSW) based in N. Virginia. LSW provides professional services to help entrepreneurs succeed, in part by developing highly competitive SBIR/ STTR grant applications. (www.lifesciworks.com)
Prior to founding LSW, Dr. Hrynkow served in senior executive positions in the public and private sectors. A neuroscientist, she was Chief Scientific Officer at Cyclo Therapeutics (Nasdaq: CYTH; recently acquired by NYSE: RFL) where her team brought a drug candidate from ground zero to a pivotal trial for a rare disease, and to Phase 2 for Alzheimer’s Disease. Prior to that, she was the first President of the Global Virus Network, an NGO combatting pandemic viral disease. She also served in the U.S. Government, including as a Senior Executive at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she was the Deputy Director/Acting Director of the Fogarty International Center, the focal point for international research and diplomatic relations for the NIH, and as the National Institute on Environmental Health Sciences Associate Director.
Dr. Hrynkow has served on prestigious advisory committees for national and international organizations, including on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. She has been recognized for her contributions to global health with the US President's Merit Award for Senior Executives, the Order of Merit from the King of Norway, as an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Dr. Hrynkow is a Trustee of the Journey Through Hallowed Ground, a non-profit based in VA dedicated to protecting the historical sites in the swath of land from Gettysburg to Monticello. She was recently appointed to the Leadership Council of the National Small Business Association.
She has called Virginia home for more than 30 years.
