Professional Bio
Carrie Roth is the founder of Rerouted, a strategic communications and growth consultancy, bringing over 28 years of broad experience as an entrepreneur, political and non-profit leader.
From 2013-2021, she served as CEO and COO of Activation Capital and the VA Bio+TechPark - where she led the execution and strategy of creating more advanced-technology and life sciences companies throughout the region; executed a growth strategy resulting in 84% increase in net position of organization; created the $5 million Ecosystem DirectInvestment Fund; supported the regional accelerator of Lighthouse Labs LLC and Dominion Energy Innovation Center; launched a partnership with VCU and VCU Health to create the Health Innovation Consortium and $4.5 million pre-seed/seed fund; and attracted and supported more than 50 new companies on campus. Carrie previously served as VirginiaDeputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade, where she led the successful effort before the General Assembly to provide over $113 million in new economic development funding – including over $57 million to support Virginia’s innovation economy. Prior to joining the McDonnell Administration, she was President of her company Capitol Square Communications. Carrie served as Press Secretary for U.S. Senator George Allen, whom she worked for in various roles from 1993 to 2003, and as Policy Director for the gubernatorial campaign of Attorney General Jerry Kilgore.
She is a member of the Virginia Workforce Development Board, Region4 GOVA Council, and JDRF Central Virginia Chapter Gala Committee; and Board of Directors of Tympanogen, VirginiaBIO (Treasurer), ChamberRVA, RVATech (Chair), and Sports Backers (Chair). Carrie is a former member of the Board of Directors of Lighthouse Labs, Dominion Energy Innovation Center, Startup Virginia, Virginia Beach Bio-Medical and Healthcare Task Force; Board of Managers of the Virginia Life Sciences Fund and Riverflow Growth Fund; and President of the Fort Monroe Foundation Board.
